Questions & answers

Getting started

What happens at my first consultation?

It's a 30-minute visit ($49.99). Dr. Kristina reviews your health history and main concern, does a Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment and an AcuGraph scan, then explains what she recommends — how often, which treatments, food and lifestyle suggestions, and exact pricing.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are hair-thin. Most people feel a brief pinch or a dull, heavy feeling at the point, then relax. Dr. Kristina checks in throughout, and you can pause at any time.

Do I need to buy a treatment plan?

No. Booking a consultation doesn't commit you to anything, and you can always pay per visit ($159.99). If Dr. Kristina recommends a series of visits, a treatment plan lowers the cost to $129.99 per visit.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on your concern, how long you've had it and how you respond. Acupuncture usually builds over several visits, so Dr. Kristina recommends a starting frequency and reassesses about a month in. No number of visits guarantees a result.

How much does acupuncture cost?

The Initial Consultation is $49.99. If you continue, visits are $159.99 pay-as-you-go or $129.99 per visit on a treatment plan.

What is included in the $49.99 consultation?

30 minutes with Dr. Kristina: your health history, a review of your main concern, a TCM assessment, an AcuGraph baseline scan, a personalized treatment recommendation and a pricing discussion.

What is AcuGraph?

A few minutes of painless skin-conductance readings at points on your wrists and ankles. We use it as a visual starting point and compare it with a follow-up scan. It doesn't diagnose disease.

Can I receive acupuncture while doing IVF?

Yes. Dr. Kristina times visits around your clinic's calendar and works alongside your fertility doctor, not in place of them. Let your fertility team know you're receiving acupuncture.

Can acupuncture be used during pregnancy?

Yes, with pregnancy-appropriate techniques and positioning. It's supportive care alongside your OB or midwife. Seek urgent medical care for bleeding, severe pain or decreased fetal movement.

Do you work with PCOS?

Yes. Care focuses on cycles, energy, and food and lifestyle support, alongside your physician's treatment. Acupuncture doesn't cure PCOS.

Can I receive acupuncture alongside regular medical care?

Yes — that's how we prefer it. Keep your doctors informed, and don't change medications without talking to whoever prescribed them.

Should I eat before treatment?

Yes — have a light meal or snack 1–2 hours before. Coming in very hungry can make some people feel lightheaded.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing that rolls up above your elbows and knees. You'll always be appropriately covered during treatment.

How long are appointments?

The Initial Consultation is 30 minutes. Acupuncture visits are about 60 minutes. If you stay for treatment after your consultation, plan on roughly an extra hour.

Do you take insurance?

Seven Medicine is primarily self-pay and doesn't bill insurance directly. HSA/FSA payments may be accepted, and we can provide an itemized receipt you may submit to your insurance plan. Reimbursement depends on your individual plan.

Can I use HSA/FSA?

HSA/FSA payments may be accepted. We can provide an itemized receipt for your records or to submit to your plan; eligibility and reimbursement depend on your individual plan.

Where is Seven Medicine located?

2385 Scott Rd NW, Suite 200, Rochester, MN — next to costco in northwest rochester. Shared entrance with Shurson Group — Seven Medicine is in Suite 200. Parking available on site.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book an Initial Consultation directly. If you're under a doctor's care for your concern, bring a list of diagnoses and medications.

Pricing

Do I have to purchase a plan?

No. You can book a consultation without buying anything, and you can always pay per visit.

Can I pay per visit?

Yes. Acupuncture visits are $159.99 each.

Why is the plan rate lower?

Treatment plans reward consistent care: each visit is $129.99 instead of $159.99. For example, 10 visits on a plan saves $300.

How is the recommended number of visits decided?

Dr. Kristina bases it on your health history, what you're dealing with, your goals and how you respond. More visits are not automatically better, and she reassesses along the way.

What is the cancellation policy?

Please give 24 hours notice. Late cancellations or missed visits are $20 for a new-patient consultation and 100% of the treatment cost for treatment visits.

Fertility

Can acupuncture guarantee pregnancy?

No. Large, careful studies have not shown that acupuncture increases live-birth rates with IVF. Patients choose it as supportive care — for stress, sleep and overall wellbeing during a demanding process.

When should I begin acupuncture before IVF?

Many patients start one to three months before a cycle so there's time to settle into a routine, but you can start at any point. Dr. Kristina will plan timing around your clinic's calendar.

Can I receive acupuncture during IVF medication cycles?

Yes. Dr. Kristina asks about your medications and protocol and never changes your medical plan. Let your fertility doctor know you're receiving acupuncture.

Can I come before or after embryo transfer?

Yes. Many patients schedule visits around transfer for relaxation and support. Research doesn't show it improves live-birth rates, so we offer it as supportive care only.

Does Seven Medicine replace my fertility doctor?

No. Acupuncture works alongside reproductive medicine. If you haven't had a fertility evaluation and it's time for one, Dr. Kristina will tell you.

Women's health

Do you see patients with PCOS?

Yes. Care focuses on cycles, overall wellbeing, and food and lifestyle support, alongside your physician's treatment. Acupuncture doesn't cure PCOS.

Can I come during my period?

Yes. Many patients do, and timing visits around your cycle can be helpful. Just let Dr. Kristina know where you are in your cycle.

Do you treat endometriosis?

Dr. Kristina sees patients with endometriosis for supportive care — mainly pain, fatigue and quality of life — alongside your gynecologist. Acupuncture doesn't remove endometriosis.

Can acupuncture help during perimenopause?

Patients commonly come in for hot flashes, sleep changes and mood shifts. Research results are mixed, so we track your symptoms to see what's actually changing. It can be used with or without hormone therapy.

Pain

How quickly will I feel a difference?

Some people notice a change after one or two visits; longer-standing pain usually takes a series of visits. We track pain, sleep and function so you can see what's changing.

Can I come for an acute injury?

Yes, for strains and sprains once serious injury has been ruled out. See a doctor first for significant trauma, numbness or weakness, or pain with fever.

Can I use acupuncture alongside physical therapy?

Absolutely. Acupuncture pairs well with physical therapy, chiropractic care and medical pain treatment. Let each provider know what you're doing.

AcuGraph

Does AcuGraph diagnose disease?

No. It measures skin conductance at acupuncture points. It isn't a diagnostic test and doesn't replace labs, imaging or your doctor's evaluation.

Does a better scan prove acupuncture worked?

No. Scan readings can change for many reasons, including time of day and hydration. What matters most is how your symptoms and daily life are changing — the scan is one extra reference point.

How often are scans repeated?

Usually once at your first consultation. Dr. Kristina may repeat the scan around the first formal reassessment — often about a month into care, depending on your treatment plan.

What does the scan feel like?

A small probe touches points on your wrists and ankles for a moment. You'll feel light pressure — nothing more. It takes a few minutes.

About our care

Is Dr. Gacesa a medical doctor?

No. Dr. Kristina holds a clinical doctorate in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine and is a licensed acupuncturist in Minnesota. She is not a medical physician (MD/DO), and she works alongside your doctors.

Will acupuncture replace my doctor or medications?

No. Keep your doctors informed, and never change medications without talking to the person who prescribed them.

Is there evidence for acupuncture?

For some uses — like chronic pain, low back pain and migraine prevention — evidence is fairly strong. For others it's mixed or limited. Our research page summarizes what studies show for each topic.

Do you treat men?

Yes. Women's health is our main focus, but we see all patients for pain, stress, sleep, digestion and more.
